Eight reasons why a summer holiday in the French Alps in an excellent idea! 15 Jun 2023

Eight reasons why a summer holiday in the French Alps in an excellent idea!

1 - Swap the beaches for the lakes

Swap the packed beaches of the Mediterranean for the cool, crisp shores of a stunning alpine lake. In Les Gets, Lac des écoles is a popular spot for families, where the supervised waters are fed by alpine snow melt and are crystal clear. The inflatable playground of Wibit park - alongside its smaller alternative for smaller children - sits on the lake and makes for the perfect refreshing afternoon activity. Lac de la Rosière is a beautifully shaded paradise in Courchevel to enjoy. Use the walkway that passes over the lake to get closer to nature, the colour of the water is a sight to behold!

2 - The thrill of the downhill

Bikes replace skis and snowboards in our mountain villages during the summer months and we’re delighted to welcome mountain bikers to our properties in Les Gets, Val d’Isere and Courchevel. Each resort has a packed itinerary of dedicated mountain bike trails of both the thrill-seeking downhill variety and the cross-country enduro alternative, making them perfect for all kinds of riding. You’ll also discover that it’s easy to hire all of the mountain biking equipment you need in each resort, in addition to expert local guides to help you on the trails.

3 - Bienvenue Le Tour de France

For the second time in two years Courchevel welcomes Le Tour de France to the peaks surrounding the village. Le Tour is the most-watched annual sporting event in the world and it’s testament to the superb road cycling the area has to offer that it makes a second appearance on this famous route on Wednesday 19th July 2023. For the first time during Summer 23 Les Gets will also host a stage depart of Le Tour de France on Sunday 16th July and a fantastic atmosphere is guaranteed in both resorts as they host the very best cyclists in the world.

4 - Touch the sky

Trail running is now a big deal in the mountains, and in Val d’Isere the routes are superb. The resort has created dedicated trail running routes for all types of runner, from beginners to those training for some of the biggest events in the world. The cool mountain breeze and the shaded forest routes make Val d’Isere an excellent destination for those who like an active holiday.

5 - Hot days, cool nights

Mountain weather is changeable, and that’s an excellent thing. Usually during July and August the temperatures are hot, but the breeze is cooling, which makes an afternoon spent on a sunny terrace a comfortable, relaxing experience. Often we experience incredibly powerful but very short-lived mountain storms in the afternoons. Listen as the thunder rumbles around the mountains, smell the fresh breeze rush through the valley and watch the sky grow dark. Summer storms usually last less than an hour, before the sunshine returns.

6 - Family fun

In Les Gets Alta Lumina is an enchanted, holographic walk through the woodlands at night, accompanied by multi-sensory aspects such as music, interactive play and storytelling. Children of all ages love this unique activity, which is open each evening. Also new in Les Gets this summer, you’ll discover a four-seasons coaster - think of a rollercoaster on a raised track through the woods, which is sure to enjoyed by both adults and children alike. In Courchevel, many an active afternoon will be spent at Aquamotion, the dedicated swimming and leisure complex at the heart of the village, while in Val d’Isere a visit to the farm to meet the goats is an excellent way to spend the day.

Restaurant experiences tend to be a more relaxed affair during the summer months, with tasting menus and specials boards brimming with local flavours.
