Spring ski benefits 28 Feb 2023

Spring ski benefits

Longer Days, Warmer Evenings

With the coming of spring we can enjoy lighter, brighter mornings in the mountains. Starting the day earlier is easy, taking to the slopes to enjoy the best of the conditions before temperatures begin to warm. It’s exhilarating to feel the sun on your face before settling onto a warm terrace to enjoy a traditional mountain lunch. The joy of apres ski takes on a new meaning in springtime also. Extra hours outside in the fresh alpine air are afforded to each of us, whether you spend them on an alpine dance floor or on your balcony enjoying a good book, the choice is yours!

The Mountains To Yourself

With the passing of the school holidays and the fast pace of the busy season weeks, mountain resorts begin to take on a much more relaxed atmosphere that’s conducive to a calming holiday. You’ll spend less time in lift queues and more time enjoying spacious, quiet pistes. You’ll feel more rested having soaked up the energy of the mountains, perhaps enjoying some new alternative activities as you go. This is a holiday, after all!

Explore the Alternatives

We call it a ‘ski holiday’ but you’re not obliged to ski all day, every day and that’s the glory of springtime in the mountains. Many villages adapt their activities and entertainment to include alternatives away from the pistes. Snowshoeing is an excellent way to take in stunning alpine vistas off the beaten track, while the retreating snow line helps is to rediscover trail running routes through the valleys. You’ll enjoy a more authentic mountain experience and become more familiar with your mountain resort of choice.

Perfect for Beginners

If you’re new to the mountains, the sub-zero temperatures of December, January and February might be slightly off-putting. Those whipping alpine winds and changeable weather conditions demand several layers of clothing and a steely attitude towards the slopes. Beginner skiers on the other hand, are best-suited to springtime skiing when the snow is softer and the weather is more favourable. If you’re tempted to take your first ski holiday, or if you’ve small children in your holiday group, springtime is the best time.
