Why we love spring skiing… 06 Apr 2022

Why we love spring skiing…

“What’s the snow like in April?” you ask us. And whilst it’s true that the final weeks of the winter season yield fewer snowflakes and warmer temperatures, it’s also true that ski resorts expertly manage snow conditions on the pistes across the French Alps, grooming them to perfect each evening. Here’s six reasons why we love to ski in spring, and you should too!

1 - Not a Queue in Sight

The latter weeks of the season are much quieter than the peak weeks of February, which means you’ll barely ever queue for a ski lift, you’ll discover tables are available at your favourite restaurants without advance reservations and the villages take on a much more relaxed, less frantic pace. You’ll ski on pistes with barely another skier in sight, discovering new corners of your favourite resorts - it’s blissful!

Admire the beauty of our mountains in spring!

2 - Cold Mornings

Seasoned spring skiers will tell you, the key is to head out early, catching those first lifts and heading off into the ski domain of your choice while the pistes are cold and freshly groomed. There’s no better feeling! Getting kilometres under your belt in the morning means you’ll make the most of the snow conditions before stopping for a long lunch in the sunshine. Imagine a sun-soaked terrace, delicious seasonal produce and a very large glass of rose. Just don’t forget your sun screen!

3 - Warm Afternoons

After a morning ski and a long lunch, springtime offers up the perfect opportunity to explore the rest of your ski resort. Take in the character and charm of each village, wandering between shops, cafes and bars, meeting local people and taking the time to absorb the unique culture and atmosphere of the mountains. The vibe is incredibly different!

The highlight of spring skiing: long sunny afternoons on the terrace!

4 - Unmissable Events

In Les Gets, Courchevel and Val d’Isère, closing parties bring the winter season to an end, usually punctuated with a slope-side party, live music and a celebratory atmosphere. In Les Gets you can mark the end of the Winter 22/23 season on Saturday 9th April with live DJ sets, food and drink between 4pm and 9pm in the village centre. In Val d’Isere on 27th April, bars and restaurants come together to offer a unique end of season experience including dancing, a BBQ and even a waterslide! Meanwhile in Courchevel, La Folie Douce is absolutely the place to celebrate the end of the winter season, where you’ll discover contemporary art, live music and performances and an unmissable atmosphere.

5 - Perfect for Beginners & Children

If you’re taking to the mountains for the first time, you’ll find that it’s much easier to learn to ski on quieter pistes bathed in sunshine, without the risk of inclement weather. Children also enjoy the freedom of not wearing several layers, with the sun on their faces as they make their first turns. Springtime skiing is much more comfortable for those new to the joys of skiing or snowboarding!

The ideal spring conditions will delight experienced skiers and beginners alike.

6 - Value for Money

You’ll discover that accommodation in ski resorts is much less expensive during the final weeks of the season, giving you the opportunity to upgrade your choices and enjoy a truly luxurious holiday. Here at Alpine Resorts we offer you a number of different indulgent options in the finest ski resorts of Courchevel, Val d’Isère and Les Gets with apartments and residences to suit all group sizes and budges.
